Genre: Action, Drama, Mecha, Military, School, Science-Fiction, Supernatural

Age Rating: Teenage and above (may contain bloody violence / bad language / nudity)

No. of Episodes: 25 episodes

Story

The key part of this groundbreaking anime. It is about a fallen prince trying to destroy the Brittannia empire. Some might see it as an ordinary mecha/military anime. However, I don’t think so. Or rather Code Geass is the anime that adds extra spice into the genre, results a great anime with lots of information within. Well, to put is simple, mecha version of Death Note.

I didn’t meant this anime also got death notes… Anyone watched Death Note would impressed with the story, same goes for my mom. Code Geass is giving the same impression too. You can’t say that this anime just focused on mecha or action, it also focuses on others especially the tactical analysis and relationship between the characters…

Overall, a SUPERB anime… I like this anime, and I believe you’ll definitely being blasted by this anime too.

I’ll have it rated: 37.5/40

Animation

Studio: Sunrise

Year: 2006

Type: Series

First of all, the characters of this series are all designed by CLAMP. This is one of the great aspects of the anime. At first, I was WTF to see the character’s design, which all appears to be so sleekish and aesthetic… After watching for few episodes, I found that I began to like their designs.

Their designs are so special that separates each character’s personalities. Forgot to mention that their facial expression is the best. I’ve watched quite a number of anime, and this anime has the best facial expression. Trust me.

Overall, the animation are very fluid and smooth. No complaints and thanks to Sunrise+CLAMP for making this a great anime.

I’ll have it rated: 27.5/30

Audio

Opening Theme(s):

  1. “COLORS” by FLOW (eps 1-12)
  2. “Kaidoku Funou” by Jinn (eps 13-23)
  3. “Hitomi no Tsubasa” by Access (eps 24-25)

Ending Theme(s):

  1. “Yuukyou Seishunka” by Ali Project (eps 1-12)
  2. “Mosaic Kakera” by SunSet Swish (eps 13-23)
  3. “COLORS” by FLOW (ep 24-25)

Insert Theme(s):

  1. “Stories” by Hitomi
  2. “Masquerade” by Hitomi
  3. “Callin’” by Sakai Mikio
  4. “Alone” by Hitomi
  5. “Piscaresque” by Sakai Mikio
  6. “Innocent Days” by Hitomi (ep 25)

I don’t really like all the opening and ending themes of this series. I think they’re just slightly above average… Some people might think that Ali Project’s song are so annoying, yeah, lots of…

Soundtracks are mainly orchestra-phic and symphony feel. To bring out the effect of “All Hail Brittannia”… The soundtracks might not suitable for casual listening, but suits the anime perfectly…

Voice casts are great in this series. Their voice fits the characters perfectly and the situation and mood. Such as Lelouch, from a carefree high-schooler to a ambitious rebellion leader.

I’ll have it rated: 18/20

Personal Rating

This anime is in my favourites’ list. I’ve recommended this anime to some of my friends and all of them like it.

Acer Aspire 4937G

Posted by John on April 28, 2009

Here we are, Acer Aspire 4937G-742G32Mn. Ordered this laptop about few weeks ago and arrived on 15th April… Being looking around for a laptop that meets my requirements, that is enough for my usage and economical. Of course, $$ is important. ah, this laptop costs RM2999.

Before that, I was targeting at the 4935G, also priced RM2999. Luckily I didn’t buy that model, if not, when 4937G come out, I’ll gonna hit my head on the wall. I didn’t buy the 4935G because, I was expecting the price to drop while I wait for my application for UTAR to be replied. Instead of a price drop, Acer releases a newer model… =.= I think lotsa people are hitting their head on the wall now..

So what is the difference between the 2 models? well 4935G has DDR2 RAM, while 4937G has DDR3 RAM which is newer and faster. Hey, at the same price, but the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 are vast…

The Looks

Don’t really care about the looks, and don’t really know how to describe it either. I always thinks that performance is the most important aspect. However I’ll still simply go through it.

Very cool looking back lid, black gloss finish with slightly blue.

Simple Specs

Intel Core2Duo P8400 2.26GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB L2 Cache
2GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce G 105M 512MB DDR2
320GB Hitachi 5400RPM 8MB SATA HDD
Slimtype DVD A Multi-L
Atheros PCI-E Ethernet Controller
Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN
14″ HD LED LCD

What we got…

at the right side we got, a (1)USB 2.0 port, (2)Optical Drive, (3)Phone line port, (4)Kensington lock slot.

Left side, (1)DC-in jack, (2)Ethernet port, (3)VGA port, (4)USB2.0/eSATA port, (5)HDMI port, (6)USB 2.0 port, (7)audio ports, (8)ExpressCard/54 slot

Base view, (1)Battery, (2)HDD bay, (3)Memory compartment, (4)Vent and fan..

After using it for almost 2 weeks, here’s a simple conclusion I got.

Pros(good): RM2999 Value buy, Intel P8400, DDR3 RAM, nvidia G105M, good looking, 320GB, HD, eSATA, can play extreme games at mid-lower graphics settings and etc still increasing…..

Cons(bad): 3 USB slots only, if eSATA port is being used, means only left 2 USB slots (will get extension USB) , Acer MediaTouch not sensitive enough, annoying Acer eAudio management, too glossy easily left fingerprints on it, speaker not good enough (of course, it’s a laptop), DVD drive works like my mom’s hair dryer (most laptop has this prob)

Would better if: got Intel P8600, got nvidia 9600M, got Full HD(impossible), change that Hitachi 5400RPM HDD, change that noisy optical drive.

Lastly, although the Cons looks more than the Pros, however, they’re all small problems. I’m satisfied with the overall performance of this laptop.

K-ON! Episode 4 – Training Camp(?)

Posted by John on April 25, 2009

WARNING! Spoilers ahead

It’s episode 4, the long awaited sea+bikini+girls+Mio+moe = pure awesome episode.

It’s summer and Mio suggested that to have a special training camp for their band during the summer break because their band never played any music together before…

Yui still can’t play very well… That’s a factor too…

It is more like a vacational-training-camp. And I really like to have this kind of camp ^^

This episode is too great to blog about!!! Moe-overflow!!! Mio strikes in this episode.. I enjoyed watching this episode so much that my sister ask me to stop smiling and laughing at my computer…

I’m trying to reduce the spoiler screenshots count… This is as much as I could disclose… ><

Anime Review: Kure-nai

Posted by John on April 23, 2009

Kure-nai

Plot Summary:

Kure-nai is about the adventures and misadventures of 16-year-old Kurenai Shinkurou. Shinkurou is an authority in settling disputes between people, and finds his life turned upside down one day when he is assigned as a bodyguard for Kuhouin Murasaki, the daughter of a powerful plutocratic family.

Genre: Action, Comedy, Drama, Romance(?)

Age Rating: Teenage and above (may contain bloody violence / bad language / nudity)

No. of Episodes: 12 episodes

Story

This anime was in my watchlist and recently I got my time for this series. At first, the opening animation scared me off. I almost drop this series at that moment, but I choose to finish the first episode before I decide to drop it…

Luckily I didn’t drop it because this is a rare anime. It is about a youngster who works as a dispute mediator protecting a 7-year-old girl who is a daughter of a powerful plutocratic family. The anime starts with slice-of-life-ish story, you’ll barely get any action or fighting scenes. Until the climax of the story, only we got chance to watch some intense action scenes.

A really nice anime, especially the storyline which is the best part of this show. The inner struggles and relationship between our protagonist, Shinkurou Kurenai and Kuhouin Murasaki. For a 12 episode series, this is a really nice anime.

I’ll have it rated: 33/40

Animation

Studio: Brain’s Base

Year: 2008

Type: Series

Apart from the story, the animation of this series is very good too. The coloring, background art work, character illustrations and details.. all very nice and well balanced…

What I really like about this anime is that not only the character’s movement are smooth and natural, even the actions scenes are fluid too. Well, I can’t say that is 100% great, however, I was really impressed by the last episode’s “car fight”. Something that’s really new for an anime.

I’ll have it rated: 25/30

Audio

Opening Theme(s):

  1. “Love Jump” by Kuribayashi Minami

Ending Theme(s):

  1. “crossing days” by Shintani Ryoko (eps 1-7, 9-11)
  2. “Tenohira no Taiyou” by Shintani Ryoko (ep 8)

Insert Theme(s):

  1. n/a

Okay, I was wrong just now… The opening and the ending of this anime stands out the most. Why? because I almost drop this series when I watch the opening… try youtube for the opening and ending song.

Despite the animation of the theme songs are that scary, however the songs are quite nice. especially the opening song, a really catchy song. Have no idea why Brain’s Base want to do it that way… It was quite a gamble. While the soundtracks just normal… jazzy feel…

I want to mention that the character seiyuu (voice actor) had done a really nice job, especially Murasaki’s seiyuu, Yuuki Aoi. I like her voice so much… I’m not a lolicon okay… Her voice fits Murasaki’s personality perfectly. Excellent voice cast.

I’ll have it rated: 14/20

Personal Rating

I didn’t put much hope in this anime, however it turned out to be an enjoyable anime. Would recommend to others.
