Chobits

Plot Summary:
In the future, personal computers have developped into “Persocoms”, mobile computers that look like human beings. Motosuwa Hideki, a prep school student, desperately wants to buy a Persocom but cannot afford to.
One day he finds a Persocom that has been thrown away and decides to keep it. When he turns on the Persocom, all she can say is “Chii” so he decides to name her “Chii”.
After a while it starts to become apparent that Chii is more than an average Persocom. Having much better performance, it seems that Chii might be a “Chobit”, a type of advanced Persocom rumoured to have independent thought.

Story
I get to know this anime through its manga version. I loves the story. So, I tried the anime version. The story tells about how persocoms affect humans, just like nowadays, how computers affect humans. We now needs computer in our daily life, no matter working, or relaxing, or gaming, even contacting each other.
In the story, humans spend more time on a persocom than other people, because persocoms are reliable and their personality is being programmed to the owners liking.
I’ll have it rated: 31.5/40
Animation
Studio: Madhouse
Year: 2002
Type: Series
Very well done for the year 2002. There are some differences in between the anime version and manga version. but, Chii’s cuteness is not altered, especially her cute head nodding action.
The timeline should be in near future, but it seems that everything is almost the same as our era. This doesn’t make any sense as computers are already developped into Persocoms…
I’ll have it rated: 22/30
Audio
Music Production:
- Victor Entertainment
Opening Theme:
- “Let Me Be With You” by ROUND TABLE featuring Nino
Ending Themes:
- “Raison d’Etre” by Tanaka Rie
- “Ningyohime” by Tanaka Rie
- “Katakoto no Koi (duet ver.)” by Tanaka Rie and Sugita Tomokazu
The Opening song, “Let Me Be With You” fits perfectly with the anime. I can feel the cuteness of the song. The opening animation is great, Love it.
While for the endings, the first ending, “Raison d’Etre”, was quite relaxing, but as the story goes in climax, the ending so changed to “Ningyohime” which sounds quite heavy emotioned…
Overall, I only likes the OP – “Let Me Be With You”, others I don’t like much…
