Posted by John on July 31, 2008

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu

Plot Summary:

It’s back-to-school mayhem with Chidori Kaname and her war-freak classmate Sagara Sousuke as they encounter more misadventures in and out of Jindai High School. But when Kaname gets into some serious trouble, Sousuke takes the guise of Bonta-kun – the gun-wielding, butt-kicking mascot.

Genre: Action, Mecha, Military, Comedy, Drama, Science Fiction, Romance

Age Rating: Teenage and above (May contain bloody violence / bad language / nudity)

No. of Episodes: 12 Episodes

Story

The side-story of “Full Metal Panic!” It focuses almost entirely on the high school life of Sagara and Chidori, highlighted in the short story collections.

This series differs from the serious tone set in the first series – “Full Metal Panic!”. They focus on the comedy and sometimes parodies itself on other anime. Yeah, extreme comedy…

Conclusion, unlike “Full Metal Panic!”, “FMP? Fumoffu” are short stories and the most important is it focuses on comedies which made me laugh like no tomorrow… Good for releasing tension after watching the “FMP!”.

I love this series!!

I’ll have it rated: 38.5/40

Animation

Studio: Kyoto Animation

Year: 2003

Type: Series

The series was animated by Kyoto Animation, replacing GONZO from the previous series. Well, I don’t know why… and somehow I felt a bit dissapointed since GONZO did a great job in the previous series.

BUT I’m surprised that Kyoto Animation was capable of making this series a boom. They manage to continue this series without making much difference in the character and animation… I mean, it is harder to continue others job than starting on your own.

Looking forward to watch the 3rd series, “Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid” which is also animated by Kyoto Animation.

I’ll have it rated: 28.5/30

Audio

Music Production:

  1. Flight Master (OP/ED)
  2. Pony Canyon

Opening Theme(s):

  1. “Sore ga Ai Desho” by Shimokawa Mikuni

Ending Theme(s):

  1. “Kimi ni Fuku Kaze” by Shimokawa Mikuni

Insert Theme(s):

Music and BGM is better than last series. is it because of the Opening and Ending animation?

I think Chidori in the Opening song is gorgeous, and the Ending is cute, chibi-character (small) walking…

After July Monthly Test

Posted by John on July 26, 2008

Few post before, I said that I’m determined to study hard for these few months before SPM. But, before facing SPM, I have to face July monthly test and SPM trial exam. So, instead of studying alone, I invited PeiFeng, ChoonYong, HwaZien and JuShuen to study with me. Don’t you think that group studying is more fun and effective than studying alone?

Photo of PeiFeng and ChoonYong (holding highlight pen) studying on my bed… yah.. my room is small…

They agreed with my idea… wow.. usually they will agree with: “Hey, go cosplay..” Don’t think that we only go Cosplay play oni.. We also do group study. hehe

Thanks to my friends, my results for the monthly test surprised me… increased 40-50% than usual… of course, their results also increased…

I’m planning to continue this study group project… to save PeiFeng and ChoonYong. lol..

and… messy table…

so, how was your result for July monthly test?

Anime Review: Air Gear

Posted by John on July 26, 2008

Air Gear
エア・ギア

Plot Summary:

Minami Itsuki (Ikki), is a student and a delinquent. Also known as the “Unbeatable Babyface”. His friend, Kazu is the leader of the youth gang by the name of “East Side Gunz” (Hikatsuganzu). Upon his return home after being humiliated by a Storm Rider team called the Skull Saders, Ikki discovers a secret of his benefactors, the Noyamano sisters. The sisters belong to a group of Storm Riders who go by the team name of “Sleeping Forest”.

Learning the sisters’ secret angers him and he steals a pair of Air Trecks (AT). Ikki eventually settles his grudge with the Skull Saders, but in the process he receives more than the simple satisfaction of revenge. Determined to experience the sensation of “flight” for as long as he can, Ikki is quickly engaged in the mysterious, irresistible world of Air Treks.

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy, Sports, Drama

Age Rating: Teenage and above (may contain bloody violence / bad language / nudity)

No. of Episodes: 25 episodes

Story

One of my friend, JuShuen recommended me to this anime. He said that this anime is very cool, about roller blading, well, motorized roller blades, Air Treks (AT). So I give it a shot and I just finished watching this series few days ago.

The first half of the anime is about introducing the characters and Air Treks, but to my surprise they don’t properly explain some events such as what is a “Parts War” or AT battle or whatever, but they leave the explainations to later episodes… Well, I don’t really know why they’re doing this but this leaves a lot of question marks on my head when I’m watching the first half…

While in second half, the story is getting more and more exciting. Yeah, yeah… Sometime I’m laughing myself because the story is just too great… Ah, I forgot to mention about the comedy of this series. “You’ll definitely get blasted.” This sentence explains all…

Unfortunately, this series is too short, counting 25 episodes total. The story ends after Ikki defeats ”erm.. (I forgot the guy’s name). I can tell that this story has very high potential, they can expand the story more longer until nowhere… too bad they choose to finish the series and I don’t hear any news about second season. Quite dissapointing…

I’ll have it rated: 34/40

Animation

Studio: Toei Animation

Year: 2006

Type: Series

This anime doesn’t have much fancy Computer Graphics… just pretty normal… Well, Yeah, I’m pretty dissapointed with this issue cause I thought that 2006s anime should be using lots of CGs already.

but no worry, Toei Animation isn’t completely not using any CGs, they’re have some in battle scenes, whoa, pwnage.

Despite not using the latest animation technology, Toei still manage to produce such marvelous anime, what can I say more… salute. But i dont know whether they’re doing this in purpose… or.. they already do their best.. lol.. anyway keep it up Toei..

I’ll have it rated: 25/30

Audio

Music Production:

  1. Marvelous Entertainment

Opening Theme(s):

  1. “Chain” by Back-on

Ending Theme(s):

  1. “Sky-2-High” by skankfunk

Insert Theme(s):

  1. n/a (mostly remix-es of “Chain”)

Firstly, the Opening song, “Chain” is da best. Kind of hip-hop/rap/techno style… and most of the insert songs are consist of remix versions of “Chain”. Meanwhile, for the Ending, instead of animation, they use real-life-enviroment as the Ending, make it looks like we’re riding on the Air Trek, but, I dont like the ending song, “Sky-2-High”.

As conclusion, selection of music is very suitable with the anime, it rocks!!

I’ll have it rated: 16/20

Personal Rating

8/10

Anime Review: Gate Keepers

Posted by John on July 23, 2008

Gate Keepers

Plot Summary:

The story is set in 1969, a period of time in which Japan is experiencing intense economic and social development after the end of World War II in 1945. Unbeknownst to humans, alien/interdimensional beings have emerged with plans to take over the world by sending numerous agents to wreak havoc in cities, turning people into robotic minions. They are referred to as “Invaders”.

In an attempt to confront the Invaders and defend the planet; an elite but highly secret organization called the Alien Exterminating Global Intercept System (A.E.G.I.S.), was set up with special funding from the government. They rely on the ability of “Gate Keepers”, who have the power to open dimensional “gates” of a paranormal energy that give them their superpowers. These superpowers are the only weapons that have any effect on Invaders.

Although A.E.G.I.S. has branches around the world, the series focuses on the Far East division in Japan. The headquarters of the Far East branch of A.E.G.I.S. lies beneath Tategami High School, a facade created by the organization to mask the active recruitment of new Gate Keepers. Since many of the candidates were High School students, the location allowed the agents to be enrolled in school and be available for a mission at a moment’s notice.

Genre: Action, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Comedy, Drama, Romance

Age Rating: Teenage and above (may contain bloody violence / bad language / nudity)

No. of Episodes: 24 episodes

Story

Okay, a story about High school students with special abilities fighting against the aliens. Overall, the story is very well told. Every incident are according to the plot. Simple and clear, unlike some story might just ruined the plot or distracted..

I’ll have it rated: 35/40

Animation

You wouldn’t believe that this is a year 2000’s anime because the animation is very very very GOOD.. I’m impressed with GONZO’s work, cheers!! Nice character designs, breath-taking CGs… This might be one of the best animated anime in year2000.

Hope GONZO would keep up their good work.

Anime Review: Fate/stay night

Posted by John on July 12, 2008

Fate/stay night
フェイト/ステイナイト

Plot Summary:

Emiya Shirou lost his parents in a fire when he was young and was later adopted by a sorceror, Emiya Kiritsugu. Although he was full of admiration for his adopted father and yearns to become an ally of justice, Shirou has limited powers and was unable to become a strong sorceror like his father.

That is until one fateful day, he was drawn into the Holy Grail War and summoned a female “Servant” known as Saber. It turns out that the Holy Grail War involves a series of battles among powerful sorcerors to fight for the possession of a relic that will grant one’s wishes, the Holy Grail.

There are altogether seven “Masters” who can summon their respective “Servants” from different classes known as Saber, Archer, Rider, Berserker, Lancer, Caster andAssassin. These “Servants” have to hide their real identity in order not to reveal their weaknesses to the enemies. The story revolves around Shirou and his entanglement in the Holy Grail War.

Genre: Action, Drama, Romance, Fantasy, Supernatural

Age Rating: Teenagers and above (may contain bloody violence / bad language / nudity)

No. of Episodes: 24 episodes

Story

Okay, story about a amateur sorcerer getting involved in a battle, and ACCIDENTALLY summoned the strongest Servant. Well, I found that animes tend to have lots of beginer/noob luck… such as an ugly/unpopular guy have a crush with a “sinking fishes and droping birds” beauty lady…

But, as the story continues, it becomes more and more exciting, and touchy too…

no more spoilers…

I’ll have it rated: 33.5/40

Animation

Studio:Studio DEEN

Year: 2006

Type: Series

Overall the animation is okay… not very bad, not very good… ok, ok level…

because they have some scenes that looks unreal… for example, in 1st episode, when Emiya Shiro is being tossed to the wall…

The Good is, where the battles have all kinds of CGs.. which are astonishing.

I’ll have it rated: 23.5/30

Audio

Music Production:Geneon Entertainment

Opening Theme(s):

  1. “disillusion” by Tainaka Sachi (eps 1-14)
  2. “Kirameku Namida wa Hoshi ni” by Tainaka Sachi (eps 15-23)

Ending Theme(s):

  1. “Anata ga Ita Mori” by Jyukai (eps 1-13, 15-23)
  2. “Hikari” by Jyukai (ep 14)
  3. “Kimi to no Ashita” by Tainaka Sachi (ep 24)

The both Openings are marvelous. 1st opening, “disillusion” gives us a feeling of mystery, perfect for a supernatural genred anime. The 2nd Opening, “Kirameku Namida wa Hoshi ni” has a catchy beat, shows that the show is in the climax. Of course, I like the Endings too. The Endings are “slow” songs.

I’ll have it rated: 17/20

Personal Rating

8/10

OVERALL POINTS

33.5 + 23.5 + 17 + 8 = 82points

82points, EXCELLENT Anime [12/07/2008]
